Baker (Part-Time)

About Us

Located on the National Register of Historic Places, the Lost River General Store has served as the commercial and social heart of the Lost River Valley for more than 125 years. Today, we've reimagined this historic gathering place as a destination featuring artisan retail, award-winning Puerto Rican coffee, a scratch-made café, bakery, and Storehouse Evenings, our Friday and Saturday cocktail lounge featuring handcrafted cocktails and shareable small plates.

Everything we serve reflects our commitment to quality. We prepare food from scratch whenever possible, use family recipes, source from local farms and producers, and believe thoughtful hospitality begins in the kitchen.

If you enjoy baking from scratch, appreciate quality ingredients, and take pride in creating food that becomes part of someone's day, we'd love to meet you.

Position Summary

The Baker is responsible for preparing a weekly assortment of fresh, house-made baked goods for the Lost River General Store & Café. From cookies and muffins to quick breads, pepperoni rolls, and seasonal specialties, our bakery offerings support both café service and retail sales while reflecting our commitment to quality, consistency, and hospitality.

This position typically works one production day each week with flexibility in scheduling. You'll plan and complete the week's baking, package finished products for display, and help ensure our guests always find fresh, thoughtfully prepared baked goods waiting for them.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys working independently, takes pride in craftsmanship, and appreciates the satisfaction of creating products people look forward to enjoying and sharing.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare a weekly assortment of baked goods following established recipes and quality standards.

  • Bake cookies, muffins, quick breads, pepperoni rolls, seasonal specialties, and other menu items.

  • Maintain consistency in flavor, appearance, and portioning.

  • Package, label, and stock baked goods for café service and retail display.

  • Follow all food safety, sanitation, labeling, rotation, and HACCP procedures.

  • Maintain ingredient inventory and communicate ordering needs.

  • Receive, inspect, label, and properly store deliveries as needed.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient kitchen throughout production.

  • Assist with holiday baking and seasonal offerings as business needs require.

  • Help maintain the welcoming, hospitality-focused culture that defines the Lost River General Store.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who enjoys baking and takes genuine pride in their work.

The ideal candidate is:

  • Passionate about creating quality baked goods from scratch.

  • Organized, dependable, and able to work independently.

  • Detail-oriented with an eye for consistency and presentation.

  • Comfortable managing a weekly production schedule.

  • Flexible and willing to help wherever needed in a small business.

  • Friendly, professional, and committed to outstanding hospitality.

Professional bakery experience is valued, but we also welcome talented home bakers who have developed strong baking skills and are eager to learn. We can teach recipes and techniques. We can't teach pride, curiosity, and a passion for hospitality.

Qualifications

  • One year of bakery, café, restaurant, or comparable baking experience preferred.

  • High school diploma or GED.

  • Food Handler Certification (or ability to obtain after hire, if permitted by state law).

  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and stand for extended periods.

  • Reliable transportation.

  • Excellent references.

Schedule

  • Typically one production day per week.

  • Flexible weekday schedule.

  • Additional hours may be available during holidays, special events, and peak seasons.

Why You'll Love Working Here

Unlike many commercial bakeries, you'll have the opportunity to create small batches of thoughtfully prepared baked goods that become part of our guests' experience. Your work will be enjoyed by café guests, inn guests, and visitors who stop in to take a taste of the Lost River Valley home with them.

You'll work in a small, collaborative team where quality matters, ideas are welcomed, and every loaf, muffin, cookie, and pepperoni roll contributes to preserving a 125-year tradition while helping write its next chapter.

To Apply

Please submit your resume and a brief cover letter to employment@innatlostriver.com.
